Second Life Projects

Second Life is a virtual world created by Linden Lab. Unlike MMORPGs, Second Life allows users to create structures and objects with no final goal or task to achieve, making a new creative space with shops, games, meeting places, and anything else a user can think of. A full programming languages is provided in order to interact with the world, with mechanisms such as Email and XML-RPC in place in order to talk to people and things in "First Life". Nonpolynomial Labs uses Second Life as a rapid application development environment for interaction and immersive environment projects, as well as a place to explore and learn new things.

09/30/2005 LifeCycle v1.0: First Life Locomotion in Second Life
The bicycle is used around the world for cheap, self-powered transportation, and has embedded itself into many interesting contextual situations. Romantic ideas such as biking through the park or using paddle boats, the thrill of the Tour De France, the metaphor of training wheels, are all based on bicycles. Using the LifeCycle, users will now be able to move themselves from place to place in the Second Life world using a stationary exercise bike.
09/08/2005 Hooky: Input Injection in Second Life
Second Life comes with 2 control mechanisms; keyboard and mouse. There's very little problem getting around in the world with these two methods. However, at Nonpolynomial Labs we believe that input can be as much part of the world as the client itself. Out of that idea grew Hooky, an input injector for Second Life.

Ever wanted to fly through a virtual world with more detail than a simple 3D API can provide? Using polarized material and video projectors, we set up a way to view the Second Life world in 3D.
